The SmartKnowledgeU™ U.S. Stock Picker newsletter is a great supplement to our online coursework. Above, we show the returns of all the stock picks we provided to our readers for free last year through our blogs and newsletters, with the dates we recommended them and their performance as of the first stock we recommended one year ago. Almost all dates correspond to the dates we first discussed the stock, so in the instances where we recommended only buying a particular stock only on dips, we actually used the HIGHER price for our purchase price.

Therefore, for some of the returns above, we actually underestimated the returns our more savvy readers would have had purchasing the same stock. In only one instance, with the stock BIDU, did we not use the date we first discussed the stock because we recommended buying this stock only when a major correction in share price happened. Furthermore, when the correction happened as we predicted, the lowest price reached during that ensuing correction for BIDU stock was $67.92 a share. However, we used $73.48 as our entry price, a significantly higher price for the stock than its low point during the correction.

To select these “free picks” over the past year, we utilized our SmartKnowledgeU™ proprietary investment strategies. However, because we provided them for free in our free blog and free publications, we spent very little time researching them and while we did provide some “premium” picks, we hardly gave away all of our premium picks. Furthermore, once we launch our subscription newsletter services, we will no longer provide any free picks with our free newsletter. OUR STOCK PICKING METHODOLOGY

Our methodology to choose stocks won’t rely heavily on traditional statistics that you may be used to seeing, such as P/E ratios, earnings, gross and net margins, etc because our strategies don’t rely heavily on number crunching to uncover our best picks. This doesn’t mean that we don’t take a close look at the numbers. It merely means that we use other PROPRIETARY strategies that have proven to be far better predictors of stock price performance such as the strength of money trails among banking-government-corporate relationships. Only after we have identified the strongest picks capable of strong double-digit annual returns using our proprietary methodology do we then pare down our top stock picks by ensuring that the numbers look fine.

The amazing strength and consistency of our proprietary stock picking strategies is demonstrated by the returns of all of our FREE stock picks distributed through our blog and free newsletters last year (again, since we are starting subscription newsletters, sorry but our FREE stock picks will now end, but in essence, all of you received one year's subscription for free already). Furthermore, we are in the process of getting one of our portfolios managed exclusively with our strategies audited now and will post the results on our website before year's end. As far as we know, this will make us the only investment newsletter in the world willing to post audited statements of portfolio returns achieved with the same strategies utilized to pick stocks for the investment newsletter and more importantly, achieved with substantial investments of real money.

Going forward, we anticipate building a portfolio of about 20-35 stocks every year. However, based upon opportunities, our portfolios may on occasion hold as few as 15 stocks or as many as 40. We won’t provide you new stock picks just for the sake of providing new picks if we don’t feel that there are stocks out there that offer a compelling enough risk-reward setup. There are other newsletters out there that will happily jump on board irrational climbs higher in the stock market and if they get a 10% increase in a stock, immediately advise selling out because they want to pad their advertised returns in any way possible, even though the tax consequences of taking such actions is particularly onerous.

This is why we only will discuss stocks that have a low-risk, high-reward setup so that we can maximize your net returns and minimize your portfolio turnover. Concentration in the proper asset classes is the key to building wealth and this will be the top principle that guides the number of stocks we hold in our U.S. Stock Picker portfolio every year. Finally, we may occasionally throw in a non-U.S. stock or two, perhaps several Canadian stocks that trade on the NYSE or AMEX if the stock pick is compelling enough that overlooking it would be foolish.
